Meet the Freeform Technology team, they are more than just our technicians and engineers. They make the difference to our clients by providing outstanding results and customer service. We want to introduce our team members and let them share what it’s like to work at Freeform Technology. In this interview, Carl Maynard, Pattern Finisher at Freeform Technology, discusses his 6 years working with us.
What is your role at Freeform and what does your day-to-day job entail?
My role at Freeform is to finish composite pattern and mould, jigs, and fixtures after being machined, to meet the expectations and requirements of the customers. More often sanding over the surfaces of patterns, made of various types of composite material, with varying sandpaper grades to achieve a smooth surface finish without blemishes, machine tool marks and scratches. On occasions I’m required to finish composite pattern and mould in other ways, for example, multiple part assemblies, blending parts together where necessary, post machine glue ups including blending glue lines, tapping holes, fitting additional parts like keenserts and helicoils to name a few.
What is the most exciting/interesting part of your role at Freeform?
The variation of work means I’m never stuck doing the same thing day in and day out. Freeform has a broad spectrum of customers, who all require very different things, one day you are working with body parts for a prosthetics company, next you are hand finishing something for a Formula 1 car and all sorts in between.
What do you enjoy the most about working at Freeform Technology?
Freeform is a professional and busy yet relaxed working environment, let’s face it…. Your place of work is a home away from home, as you spend at least half your life where you work. If you work hard for the company, then in return the company works hard for you. The directors are friendly, understanding and accommodating guys who will do what they can to help you if you help them, which is more than fair, I’ve never felt the dread of coming to work once in the 6 years I’ve been here.
What has been your biggest achievement at work?
Freeform gave me an opportunity from the very beginning. Before starting here, I was a chef for 20 years and had no other skills. Freeform has given me an opportunity to start a new career, in a completely different industry, which I have moved from strength to strength with my own drive to succeed and their support along the way. I’ve never been penalised for making mistakes. Only given direction on how to move forward from difficult situations and how to achieve something better for next time. So, my biggest achievement is making something of myself within a brand-new industry for me and learning many new things about composite pattern and mould along the way.
