Freeform Technology decided to create a mock up Jaguar E-Type to show the capabilities of the company, and how they could help with the design and finalisation of automotive manufacturing, along with model making and prototyping for other clients.
The E-Type was first modelled using the Seimens NX CAD software they work with and then programmed for production on one of their newest machines (DMG 65monoBLOCK). The E-Type was made out of a modelling board called CML 978, which they use on a very regular basis.
Once finished the E-Type was tidied up by the hand finishing department and inspected using the Faro inspection arms and software to the tolerances normally used (0.1mm). After the project was completed, one of their apprentices was in need of a project for his course, so decided to manufacture a base for the E-Type to be displayed. He designed, programmed, and manufactured the base himself, working alongside the general manager for guidance if needed.
The E-Type is on display at Freeform Technology, along with a few other demo pieces, showing the capabilities/specialities of the company. Please get in touch if you would like to have a look through the photos. Also there is a video of the E-Type being manufactured in the video section of this website or view the video on our YouTube channel.
