In this interview our Apprentice, Jack Terrey discusses his experience at Freeform and his on-the-job learning.
How are you finding the apprentice scheme at Freeform?
I am enjoying the apprenticeship scheme at Freeform as I’m learning new skills in a great working environment with plenty of experience from the team.
What does your day-to-day job entail?
Learning how to make various moulds and patterns on 5 axis CNC machines as well as CAD and inspection of parts with help and support from the team behind me.
What do you think you have learned most since starting your apprenticeship?
I have learnt a lot about managing risk, communicating effectively and how to keep myself and the team safe. I have also gained many new skills such as, how to interpret machine CAD and CAM information.
What do you find most interesting about the role?
How much I can learn from the team and how much the team can boost my confidence and understanding the machine functions.
What encouraged you to embark on an apprenticeship in the manufacturing industry?
I’ve always enjoyed making things with my hands as a kid and manufacturing seemed interesting to me.
