Composite Growth in Automotive Manufacturing

Composite Growth in Automotive Manufacturing

The number of composite component parts used in automotive manufacturing is growing exponentially. It’s hardly surprising when we see the accelerating upward sales trajectory of electric vehicles (EV) together with the early prototype emergence of solar powered vehicles. Whilst not forgetting the continued pursuit of extending the range of more conventional vehicles in relation to fuel and aerodynamic efficacy. All relatively recent transportation ambitions that by design need to minimise weight in order to secure the gains that battery power, fossil fuel reduction, and solar offers. Importantly, this also plays into support of the global initiative towards achieving zero emissions.

Apart from the more traditional automotive manufacturing market, there is another key area that seeks to leverage the gains of composites – motorsport. Seeking advantage both by design and in reductions of overall vehicle weight. Almost without exception, weight reduction directly correlates to increased performance. Freeform Technology, ever since its inception in 2008 has been engaged in support of competitive motorsport, most notably with successful F1 racing teams.

These two diverse areas relating to composites used in automotive manufacturing probably serve to promote perhaps more than anything else, the wide range of capabilities that Freeform Technology can offer to its customers. Demonstrably highlighting a broad capacity to work at opposite ends of the automotive manufacturing spectrum in the design and manufacture of composite patterns and moulds. The first example potentially needs to deliver high-volume manufacturing execution, whilst the second example demonstrates our experience and expertise in dedicated bespoke design of individualised pattern and mould manufacture.

At whatever point in the automotive manufacturing spectrum, any of our customers are currently at, we can help.

Most importantly, the significant and demonstrable differentiator that we make for each of our customers is created by our experienced, accredited, and expert team here at Freeform Technology. Our team make the difference.
